How To Remove A Mole

howtoremovemolesMany people have moles. They are often harmless but once they start to itch or bleed then careful attention must be given to them. Moles have a tendency to turn into a melanoma which is already a form of cancer. There are many books or articles that can teach those at home how to remove a mole safely and without having to go to a doctor. However, this is not really recommended as it would be better for a doctor to see the mole before it is removed to get a better evaluation.

Moles on humans have a high possibility to recur or re appear and this is why a medical professional is strongly encouraged to do the removal as the removed skin may be subjected to further testing like a biopsy for confirmation of its nature.

Often times, moles occur in persons who are pre disposed to them. They are genetic and unlike arts are highly improbable to be contracted by direct contact. They can grow in size over the years and may also shrink. But they should always be carefully observed for any irregular growths or sudden changes in color and texture. Moles are thought to be brought about by constant exposure t the sun’s radiation and genetics as they are mostly hereditary. They start to show mostly in young adolescents up to those who are in their forties.

There generally a lot of ways on how to remove a mole and they are all non invasive and usually do not leave scars. Here are the 4 commonly used techniques:

  1. Excision with stitches- this may entail slicing of the mole up to certain depths to ensure total removal. The wound may be larger than usual and may need stitches to be closed securely and to heal with minimal scarring.
  2. Excision with cauterization- the mole is essentially burned and “killed” by touching a hot metal rod onto the moles surface. This procedure is almost guaranteed not to leave any scars as they wounds will heal naturally.
  3. Laser surgery procedure- this entails a laser aimed at the mole and its surroundings. This will seal off blood vessels around its perimeter and also kill the mole. There will be no scarring and the mole will just peel off after a few days.
  4. Shave biopsy- a local anesthetic is sprayed and injected around the mole areas numbing the skin around it and then a scalpel shaves off the part of the mole that protrudes from the surface.

Any of the four methods may successfully remove a mole. However, there is no guarantee that it will not grow back. If the mole was not completely removed the first time then the remaining cells are likely to grow again.
